The Mozart Effect: Neurological Miracle, Artefact or Suggestive Influence
نویسنده
چکیده
In its basic form, the Mozart effect refers to a temporary increase in the visual-spatial tasks performance, following the exposure to Sonata for Two Pianos in D major (K. 448) by Mozart. These results have stirred a scientific, social and commercial interest. Despite their popularity, the initial findings have proved to be very difficult to replicate, generating numerous conflicting results. In this paper we have developed a synthesis of the scientific data on this subject, in a new attempt to explain what lies beyond this controversial concept.

A study of Mozart effect in Attentional blink
In this paper, we investigated the existence of the temporal component of Mozart effect, analyzed the influence of arousal or mood changing to attentional blink when listening to Mozart Sonata (K.448 D Major). We manipulated the tempo and the mode of Mozart Sonata to check if these two factors of music could affect participant’s temporal attention in two experiments. According to the experiment...
متن کاملArousal and mood factors in the "Mozart effect".
Some investigators of the "Mozart effect" have not controlled for the influence of differences in arousal or mood induced by treatment conditions. Studies by Rideout and colleagues reported differences in spatial reasoning after listening to a Mozart sonata compared against a relaxation instruction tape. The conditions may have affected subjects' arousal differentially, with the sonata increasi...
متن کاملCould a neurological disease be a part of Mozart's pathography?
As expected, since we recently celebrated the 250th anniversary of birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, there has been again a renewal of interest in his short but intensive life, as well as in the true reason of his untimely dead. Mozart lived and died in time when the medical knowledge was based mostly on subjective observations, without the established basics of standardized medical terminology...
متن کاملA Test For Lateralization of the Mozart Effect
The Mozart effect involves the enhancement of spatial processing after listening to a Mozart piano sonata (Rauscher, Dhaw, and Ky, 1993). Efforts to replicate the Mozart effect have been mixed, possibly due to differences in dependent variable operationalization across studies or large individual differences in magnitude of effect. Chabria and Kosslyn (1998) found that coordinate spatial proces...
متن کاملThe Impact of Mozart Music on Translator Students' Performance and its Relationship with Students' Extraversion or Introversion Personality Traits
The present research aimed to investigate the effect of background Mozart Classical music on translator students' performance. In this study, the researchers focused not only on the relationship between music and translation but also on the relationship between music and personality traits. The main question this study tried to answer was whether using background music might enhance students' t...
